How North Korea May Have Been Involved in the Production of US Cartoons
Posted by Kail on April 5, 2013 at 4:39 AM

North Korea's been in the news a lot these days due to young leader Kim Jong Un's threats of nuclear warfare with South Korea, Japan, as well as the US. Intrigued by the "Hermit Kingdom" and how it's basically the only country in the world to actually be shut off to the rest of the world, I decided to read up about it and see what the deal is with this "enemy of the state". What I found wound up being more interesting than any empty threats you'll hear this week from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Apparently American-based production studios have been secretly, and possibly unknowingly, outsourcing their animation to North Korea, which could be considered high treason.
Holy Crap Kris Kail's Back from the Dead

It's been what? Maybe three or four months since I've last posted a blog on this site? I think that's the longest dry spell I've ever had when it comes to writing. I've been active on Twitter every day, but I've more or less abandoned the DudeGurlz site and I think I owe you guys a full explanation.
The Destroy All Slackers Kickstarter is Now LIVE!
Posted by Kail on December 20, 2012 at 5:39 AM

We've been talking about doing it for three years now. I wrote the script, we recorded the voices, Kat designed the characters as well as the storyboards, and we licensed some music. Now, we just need to animate it. This is where you come in. I raised some money on my own to kick off production, which resulted in a work in progess version of the first scene of the movie, now we just need to raise the rest of the funds.
HEY AMERICA! Go Out and VOTE Today!

AND REMEMBER! You are a fool for voting for Mitt Romney today if you are: A person of color. Female. Homosexual. Poor. Lower Middle Class. Middle Class. Upper Middle Class but not Insanely Wealthy. Someone with a regular job. Someone with no job. A dog person. A person with a good heart. A person with a good head on their shoulders. Barack Obama.

I’m gonna wind up kicking myself for announcing this now, but Destroy All Slackers is looking at a release on June 20th, 2014. As long as production continues running smoothly the way it’s been, we’ll see Destroy All Slackers in the Summer of 2014.
Amanda Palmer and the Great Musician Heist
Posted by Kail on October 3, 2012 at 2:13 AM

Recently the talk of the internet, especially the crowd-funding community, has been Amanda Palmer's $1.2 million dollar Kickstarter success story, which [offsite-url=http://www.dudegurlz.com/how-to-use-kickstarter-so-you-make-money-and-don-t-look-like-a-fool-p457/]I've talked about previously on this very blog[/offsite-url], and how she's been asking "professional-ish" musicians to play with her band for free. One side says that its ridiculously offensive to ask someone to play for free while you yourself just got a $1.2 million dollar pay day, the other side is saying that it's good exposure for budding musicians and it's a fun experience. The way I see it, both sides are right to a degree.
UPDATE - Apparently she's now retroactively paying the volunteer musicians. Still read anyways.

Kris Kail Tackles the Issues

I've been running this blog for just over a year now and I've never once let on to how I feel politically, which was smart of me actually. Three things you never talk about at the dinner table: sex, religion, and politics. Well, I've already talked the first one, I guess I should just clear 'em all out. Just an FYI before I get started, I'm an open minded liberal. Before I make a decision, I hear out all the sides of a situation, and draw my own conclusion. Sometimes I side with the right, sometimes I side with the left, sometimes I side with neither. I feel this is important, in case any of my readers who generally share the same opinions as I do aren't "politically aware", this could give them a good jumping ground so they can form their own opinions and go out and vote.
The King of Spring Break - Death by Audio

I've been incredibly busy the past few weeks working on Destroy All Slackers, which, if you hadn't noticed, now has [offsite-url=http://www.destroyallslackers.com]it's own website[/offsite-url]. It's tough juggling the Destroy All Slackers website as well as the Burger Joint, so I figure when I can't update the blog with new material, I'll update with unreleased material. This is a story taken from my second book [offsite-url=http://www.dudegurlz.com/books-by-kris-kail-pg7/]Slacker's Inferno[/offsite-url] about how I used to be a roadie for a friend of mine's old band. If you like it, buy the book!
Why Are White People So Fascinated By Asians?
Posted by Kail on September 17, 2012 at 5:43 AM

I've been hearing all about this Gangnam Style video for the past few weeks, and I finally sat down to watch it to see what the buzz is about. Okay, it's a goofy video with an Asian guy dancing around to some silly song. But is his dancing really goofy, and is the song really silly? This is what I ask myself as I watch this and it finally hits me: white people have a weird fascination with Asians and their respective cultures.
A Rant About the Movies of Judd Apatow
Posted by Kail on September 16, 2012 at 5:45 AM

In the past thirty years or so comedy in cinema has sort of taken a dip. Pre-1970's comedies were about clever jokes, relatable and likable characters, and humorous situations. Then Hollywood started doing teen comedies, raunchy sex comedies, and raunchy teen sex comedies. They had a lotta laughs goin' for them the first time you see them in a packed theater with a bunch of laughing idiots, but try watching them a second time. Yep, not as good as before. In the 2000's though that all changed when Judd Apatow began producing a ton of wonderful comedies.
